Enpure cleans up with £60m waste contract award and Gulf Region expansion
21 May 2009
Spirit Capital Partners is pleased to announce that portfolio company, Enpure, has been awarded a £60m contract as part of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority's PFI “Waste and Recycling Contract”. Separately the company has also opened an office in Dubai to target new opportunities in the Gulf, building on its recent success in the region.
In respect of the Manchester waste contract, Enpure will provide two anaerobic Mechanical-Biological-Treatment (MBT) processing plants treating a total of 173,000 tonnes per year of household waste, providing materials recycling, fuel production and also renewable electricity.
Spirit Capital originally backed the management buy-out of Enpure from AWG plc in November 2006. Enpure has a long established track record in the water industry and this latest significant award demonstrates its successful expansion into the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) treatment market. Legislative drivers are seeing the waste industry move from disposal-based solutions, such as landfill, to process based solutions for recovery and recycling. Enpure can provide a range of process technologies, such as autoclaving, aerobic and anaerobic MBT, materials recovery, and fuel preparation, which enable clients to achieve their recycling and diversion targets.
Malcolm Wilkinson, Managing Director of Enpure, commented: “We are delighted to be involved in this prestigious waste contract, utilising our proven MBT technology and project delivery expertise.”
